Back to Nature
A Cruise on the Wild Side
Norwegians have such a special connection with nature that they even have a word for it: friluftsliv. First used by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen and translated as €˜free air life€™, the idea behind friluftsliv is that the Norwegian people have a unique attachment to nature, and that they€™re €˜most at home€™ in the outdoors. At Hurtigruten, we believe that one of the best ways for every culture to connect with nature is to visit those who are already at home outdoors: animals , in their natural environment. Whether it is observing a majestic, 100-year old whale in the waters off Baffin Bay or a penguin and 99,999 of her friends on South Georgia Island, encountering animals where they live gives us insight and appreciation for our environment. Here are some of our favorite cruises that give you a chance to go €˜home€™ again , and connect with some new friends along the way.
