TULIPS TULIPS TULIPS The long awaited Harbingers of Spring!     The first signs of spring emerge every March in the fields outside of Amsterdam. Carpets of lime green sprouts ascend from the earth; the area will be soon be a blaze of color, swathed in red, pink, purple, orange and yellow blooms. Where Are the Bulb and Tulip Fields?     There are a few bulb-growing regions in the Netherlands; the most well-known area lies between the towns of Haarlem in the province of Noord-Holland (North Holland) and Sassenheim, just north of Leiden, in the province of Zuid-Holland (South Holland). This area includes the small village of Lisse, roughly 30 miles southwest of Amsterdam is home to the Keukenhof Gardens.     What Are the Keukenhof Gardens? The stunning, fairytale-like beauty of Keukenhof Gardens is arguably one of the world's most spectacular planned gardens in the Netherlands. The park in Lisse, South Holland, showcases seven million blooming bulbs on its grounds as well as countless floral displays in indoor pavilions. Open for only two months a year, the gardens are a huge tourist attraction.   When Is the Best Time to See the Flowers in Bloom?       Although this is entirely up to Mother Nature, some tulips peak as late as the end of April or as early as late March.
