BUDAPEST

OR

BUDA vs. PEST?

Budapest is the result of an 1873 merger between two distinct cities: Buda on the western bank of the Danube and Pest on the opposite bank. Often called the Paris of the East, it is the capital and the largest city in Hungary.  Budapest is the country's principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial and transportation center.

Castle Hill is recognized as a World Heritage Site. It has many must-see attractions, Gothic arches, eighteenth-century Baroque houses and cobblestone streets.

Shop with the locals or try some traditional Hungarian food at the Central Market Hall. Budapest's Central Market Hall is housed in a majestic building originally built in 1896. It's a great place to go if you're looking for souvenirs - how about bringing some paprika home?

The Chain Bridge was the first permanent stone-bridge connecting Pest and Buda and the second permanent crossing on the entire length of the  Danube. It is one of the symbolic structures of Budapest as well as the most widely known bridge of the Hungarian capital.

Hungary's Parliament Building is situated at Pest's riverbank. Built at a time when Hungary was still under Austrian influence, the magnificent structure is a symbol of Hungary's independence.

Located at the end of Andrássy Avenue, Heroes’ Square is the entrance to the City Park as well as one of the most spectacular venues in Budapest. The three main sites of the square include the Hall of Art, built in 1896, the Museum of Fine Arts, inaugurated in December 1906, as well as the Millennium Monument.
